Once the conclave begins, all forms of communication with the outside world will be cut off for the cardinals until a new Pope is elected. Voting procedures will include one ballot on the first afternoon, followed by up to four ballots per day thereafter. A two-thirds majority is required for a successful election. If no decision is reached after three days, the cardinals may observe a day of prayer and reflection before voting resumes. Throughout the conclave, the world will watch for the traditional smoke signals: black smoke will indicate that no decision has been reached, while white smoke will signify that a new Pope has been chosen.
The Vatican sadly announces the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, who passed away in the early hours of April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. The Vatican’s Directorate of Health and Hygiene has confirmed the cause of death as complications resulting from a stroke and irreversible cardiovascular collapse, following a coma.
